Welcome to the New Year
January 3rd, 2009Are your facing 2009 with fear or with faith?
When your guy is out of work, it is easy to become tired, worried, and depressed. You probably feel like you have the weight of the world resting on your shoulders.
It’s hard, really hard. Because you are in such a difficult situation, you need all the support you can get.
Lean on your friends and loved ones for encouragement. Spend some time laughing each day, even if all you can laugh about is a re-run of your favorite old TV show.
When my husband lost his job, I turned to my faith to support me through those very dark times. For me, attending church services, praying, meditaion, and reading spiritual books, gave me the strength and courage I needed.
I also realized that I was not alone. Everyone of us suffers challenges in life, whether it is an illness, unemployment, divorce, financial woes, or just the stress of growing older. Seeing people cope with their challenges inspired me to keep going. I also realized that I still had many blessings and things for which I could be grateful.
What are you doing to enhance your spirit?
Make it a priority for this year. When you have your faith to sustain you, you can endure almost anything.
In fact, you may find that this difficult period of your life becomes a time of great spiritual growth. I am not happy my husband lost his job in 2001, but I am very thankful that my relationship with God blossomed during that time period.
Spiritual growth was my silver lining in the dark cloud of unemployment. Perhaps it will be yours as well.
