More Layoffs Today

Have you seen the news today?  Thousands of new pink slips are going out today.  Yikes!

At times like these, it is very important to put yourself on a media diet.  Be very careful about how much time you spend watching the latest news reports.  I jokingly refer to CNN as the Crisis Now Network.

While it is important to stay abreast of current events, watching the economic reports can lead to dispair and depression.  Pay attention to how much time you spend on the news- whether that is television, newspapers, or on-line news.  Limit yourself to just one news fix a day.

When you do this, you will help to remove yourself from the spiral of dispair and depression.  Managing your emotions and helping your spouse manage his are very crucial tools in surviving a job loss.

Instead of hours obsessively watching the news, do something active like taking a walk, get a chore done around the house, read a book with your child, or watch a funny sitcom.  Productivity and laughter are important tools in fighting off despair.  Be sure to use them daily.
